Established in 1927 in Johannesburg as a centre for Italian nationals to sustain, share and maintain Italian culture, practices, and values for Italians living in Johannesburg and for the generations yet to come. Italian culture is most promintently shared via the use of the Italian language, therefore language is the Society's main focus, follwed by art, food and music. South African nationals are welcome to aqcuire and share the Italian language, culture and knowledge. The Dante Alighieri operates in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under the auspices of the Italian Consulate General in Johannesburg
